I recognize that diverse ways of thinking, perceiving, and experiencing the world are valid and valuable and that neurological differences, such as autism and ADHD are unique expressions of human neurology and feel strongly that these differences aren’t problems to be cured or treated, but individual neurotypes with unique strengths and challenges. Being neurodivergent means having a brain that operates outside of society's perceived "norms" and offers a distinct perspective on the world. In my office, these differences are welcome and respected.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy is a highly effective and evidence-based approach for healing trauma, anxiety, and other psychological distress. EMDR harnesses the brain's natural capacity for healing by accessing and reprocessing memories that are stuck or causing emotional distress. By integrating bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements or other forms of rhythmic stimulation, EMDR facilitates the processing of traumatic experiences, resulting in emotional resolution and transformative growth.

    I can adjust the pacing of sessions, incorporate breaks or sensory regulation activities that you find helpful, and allow for time to process and integrate the information presented during the therapy session.

  • Sensory Regulation and Comfort:

    Sensory sensitivities are common among neurodivergent individuals. My office is designed to provide a soothing environment, allowing clients to feel safe and comfortable throughout the sessions. I adapt my interventions to accommodate specific sensory needs, ensuring a conducive space for healing. This includes allowing clients to decide if they want the window shade up or down, where they want to sit, what lights they want on, what they want to bring into the room, etc. Many of my clients take their shoes off, bring their blanket and pillow and other things in with them, they can feel free to ask for things to be adjusted if it helps them feel comfortable.

    I can also do EMDR online with a platform that allows people to do EMDR from the comfort of their home. The online platform has options to watch a ball (or other object) moving back and forth across the screen and has options that include bilateral sounds/music that you can listen to through earbuds or headphones, ability to change the background (you can upload your favorite scene!). Some clients do not want to look at the screen and that is just fine! We can use the music only or use music and bilateral stimulation that you do on your own - like tapping your thighs with your hands or other physical movement.
